The Mind-Body ConnectionThoughts, and how we view things good and bad is reflected in our body as a response to our perceptions. Our behavior is dictated by the feelings our body is telling us we have. Your body responds to the way you think and feel, this connection is often referred to as the “Mind-Body Connection”. For example, you may experience your stomach tightening any your hands moist, you begin to feel irritable and want to scream at the crazy driver who is cutting in front of you. A stressful event can trigger all kinds of emotional and physical responses. Positive events enjoy the same results; can you remember a time when you felt excited about something? Meeting a new friend, falling in love? You experienced butterflies in your belly but you rather liked those feelings at the time. Hypnosis can influence the subconscious to believe in an experience that the mind only imagines. Positive post hypnotic suggestions can have a positive physical response. To illustrate the point we have a fun exercise called "The Lemon Test" As you read the fallowing paragraph see the images in your mind and become aware of how your body is responding to your thoughts. “Imagine that you are standing in your kitchen, you have your favorite cutting board in front of you and upon the cutting board sits a big ripe lemon, next you pick up your favorite paring knife and slice the lemon in half, as you do so you notice the juices from the lemon flowing onto the cutting board and you can just imagine how tart that lemon juice must be, next you lift one half of that wonderful, tart, big lemon and squeeze it into your mouth, you can smell the tartness of the lemon as a little spray of juice enters your nostrils, you can feel the coolness and taste the tartness of the juice. At this point you may experience tightness in your jaw? Or a real lemon taste in your mouth, however you have no lemon!” I hope you experienced a little sensation of that lemon and although you had no lemon the subconscious part of your mind believed the picture of the mind and responded accordingly. If you didn't experience our Mind-Body Connection example you may want to try it again, this time just sit back for a moment and visualize the whole event again, sometimes it takes a little practice, good luck! |
